With a background in online marketing I like to keep a close eye on issues relating to websites and search engine optimisation. Coupled with my interest in anything related to doors, the following term certainly caught my eye this week. "Doorway Pages" (and "Doorway Domains") is a term being used in the SEO community and is a new one for me.
The term "Doorway Pages" normally relates to a bunch of web pages that have been created purely to push a particular keyword or phrase. Most of us will unfortunately be familiar with searching for a term online and finding pages that do not offer anything useful but simply include repeated references to a key search term or where your exact phrase appears on a web page, but everything around it is a meaningless list of random terms or tnetennba. The search engines, such as Google, are trying to avoid such websites succeeding in search results and actively discourage "Doorway Pages". In fact Google have reported that they may take action on these Doorway Pages and websites that feature such pages could be dropped altogether from search engine results.
Some people set up websites purely to point to their own website and this type of website is likely to feature a "Doorway Domain" where the URL includes a key search term. Many of the unnatural attempts to improve SEO rankings are penalised by Google and the use of Doorway Pages and Doorway Domains is no exception.
It is widely accepted amongst SEO professionals that the best way to improve performance in search engines is to regularly update content with interesting and relevant content as people will only be disappointed if they come across web pages that are nothing to do with what they have searched. At Doorsan we regularly update our website and always aim to provide entertaining and interesting content.
