For anyone, like me, who was born in the early 80's, this is probably a familiar line from the theme tune of a children's animation called The Trap Door. It was one of my favourites back then even though it was a fairly simple and short programme. This was an amusing television series featuring clay creatures in a scary castle. Each episode of The Trap Door featured a similar plot where one of the characters would leave the trap door open and risk the threat of scary creatures entering from the cellar below. The Trap Door was created by British animators Terry Brain and Charlie Mills.

A trap door is a hinged door that sits flush on the floor. I think there is something a bit creepy and sinister about trap doors and the name suggests this is an entrance for captured people where they remain trapped. Maybe the name comes from the type you find on ships (as you see on various films) where people could be thrown down to the hold if they are captured by pirates. Trap doors are often used behind bars in pubs and hotels to allow access to the beer cellar below. I can't help but think of the trap doors that were present at the site of a hanging, where the victim would fall through the trap door to his death - gruesome!
At Doorsan we do not sell hinged trap doors, but we do sell a wide range of more commonly sought-after internal and external wooden doors and of course the hinges and other hardware to hang the doors. If you are looking for a modern and stylish door for your home then you should take a look at the full range of our wooden doors which includes Pine, Oak, Walnut and Hardwood doors, and the new pre finished grey Ash doors .
