This Blog is about the decorations that people use on their doors to celebrate Christmas. Most of us will be decorating our homes over the next few weeks and decorating our external doors is a big part of this. I am a big fan of the good old traditional Christmas wreath on a door and I think a pretty, festive wreath will always bring out the best in a good quality wooden door. Personally I lean towards the traditional style and I would always opt for a standard design featuring holly, berries and pinecones. If you have a contemporary style door you may be more inclined to choose a more modern style of wreath.
So why do we use a wreath to celebrate Christmas? Wreaths have been around since ancient times and the ring shape symbolises eternity while the use of evergreen plants represents strength as evergreens maintain their green foliage throughout the coldest weather. The circular wreath is like a king's crown, which relates to the birth of Christ.
If you want to try something different there are so many styles and designs to choose from including a ring of baubles or fabrics. I saw a handmade Hessian Christmas wreath last week, which was a simple but pretty design. Wreaths are not always circular as other shapes are starting to emerge such as hearts.
Wreaths and door decorations are not just limited to Christmas as you will read in a previous Blog referring to Autumnal displays on doors. Why not have one for every season? You could even create a living wreath with planted flowers that would grow and develop throughout the year. That would really make a statement on your front door.
At Doorsan we focus on good quality doors and how you choose to decorate your door is up to you, but we are all fans of making the most of your door once you've fitted it.
