I have previously written a Blog post about the humble door knocker, however that was a fairly general post and I could not resist sharing a photo of a door knocker that I saw a few weeks ago on holiday. This is a door knocker that I saw in a small village in the South of France and I have not seen anything quite like it before. It felt quite strange to lift the hand to knock it on the door.
There were a few doors within the small village that were graced with this style of door knocker and I thought it was really interesting to compare the level of usage of the different door knockers. The one in the photo looks quite well used and I couldn't help but wonder if a worn door knocker indicates that a popular person lives in the property? Would you rather have a pristine door knocker and few friends or a well worn one and lots of friends? I also wondered how old this style of door knocker might be. It appeared quite old to me and I tried to imagine how many people had used the door knocker through its life.
If you are in the process of buying a new timber door, you may need to think about complementary hardware accessories. Doorsan offers a wide range of wooden door designs so you are sure to find a door style to suit your property, whether your style is modern or traditional. Unfortunately we do not sell a range of doorknockers at the moment but if you need information on these I’m sure our sales team could assist you with this. However, we do supply a selection of hardware including handles, doorknobs, hinge, latches and locks to compliment your new timber door.
There was a great range of door styles in the village and I took a number of photos which I intend to share in later posts.
