We often take the doors in our properties very much for granted, We open them often, clean them as part of a routine and paint or stain them when necessary, often giving little thought to their full potential. However, by the amount of new doors we sell there is certainly a good interest in replacing our doors when our customers refurbish or create new build properties.
I often consider how wooden doors can be used in more creative ways and thought I should share my ideas. There are many alternative possibilities and with the addition of alternative surface decorations door creativity has endless possibilities.
Here are some of the ideas I had:-
Timber panelling:- using traditional, panelled doors for a period look or more contemporary styles for modern properties. This can create a sophisticated effect and the possibility of hiding the opening door is a fun thing to do. Yes, I know standard doors are not as tall as rooms, but an alternative treatment could be used above such as a picture rail or delft rack for treasured items. Alternatively, consider custom made doors as supplied by Doorsan go up to 2200mm in both traditional and contemporary styles, With the addition of a skirting this could be full height for many properties.
Make a larger door:- See the picture inset of a collection of our bespoke doors which have been fixed together to create a large door/screen as a sliding door between rooms.

Headboards:- again using traditional or contemporary styles, take a look at headboards, they are often very similar in design to doors and the sizing is not dissimilar. With the addition of padded cushions they are a great solution and could match the doors you choose for the property. Alternatively a chunky Fire Door can be used as the base for a padded headboard.
Coat Rack:- An easy solution for hanging coats, hats etc. in the entrance way or hall. Fix a door to the wall then attach appropriate hooks and maybe a mirror to the door. A panelled, decorative door used in this way will look stunning.
Wardrobes:- Use our standard sized doors or custom, bespoke styles which can be as narrow as 610mm as wardrobe doors with hinges or as a sliding or folding system. The range of doors available will give you a great choice and have the advantage of matching up with the bedroom and en-suite doors used elsewhere in the room
Screens:- folding screens are really a series of doors hinged together. They are very useful and traditionally were necessary in to prevent drafts before central heating was invented. Now, they can be used as decorative pieces of furniture or useful to offer privacy with flexibility as they are moveable.
There are many more uses I'm sure, I will add other ideas to future Blog, for more ideas take a look here for inspiration.
