At Doorsan we pride ourselves on the fact that we only sell wooden doors. This affinity to wood naturally spills over in to our non working lives and many of us find that we are drawn to wooden products where there are many other materials to choose from.
As an example of how "wood-centric" I have become, I'd like to share with you my memories of a very peaceful thirty minute ponder I had recently whilst sitting on the sand dunes at Formby beach.
I was sitting in an alcove protected from the wind and it was quite sunny so for the first time this year it really was pleasant to be outside with the sun on my face. I was quite close to a piece of driftwood. It was some old tree or other about 15cm in diameter and a couple of meters long. It was quite twisted and weathered by the sea but I think this only added to its beauty rather than detract. The surface of the wood was quite defined in places with deep grooves and holes and yet the trunk was smooth like it had been cared for in others. I can remember thinking how we readily accept natures flaws and consider it as beauty whereas if this were some man made object the differing textures would be seen as a problem with the offending item cast aside as imperfect. The "tree" clearly had a story hidden within its contours and I wondered where it could have come from and how long it had roamed the sea. Maybe it was from just down the road at Crosby or maybe it had been floating for years and had drifted from an exotic beach many thousands of miles away. The latter train of thought kept my mind busy whilst I closed my eyes and enjoyed the warmth of the sun on my face. I only came back to reality when a solitary cloud passed in front of the sun and the sudden change in brightness brought me back to Formby beach.
Wood has a look and feel that we can never replicate how ever hard we try and at Doorsan we embrace the individuality of timber, the material of choice for our doors. Many of our doors are mass produced yet each door will have some special characteristic making it a unique product.
