As this is a blog all about doors, a closely related topic is keys so in this blog post I will write a bit about keys and locks.
Securing our prized possessions has always been an important part of life and protecting property goes back as far as recorded history. It is estimated that the first keys and locks were made about 4,000 years ago and were made from wood. The first metal locks were made around 900 AD and English craftsmen are credited with this development.
Keys were an important symbol in Roman times and often associated with wealth. One could assume that a Roman who wore keys as rings on his fingers would have jewellery and other possessions worth locking away.

Keys commonly appear in coats of arms and symbols, for example the papal coat of arms features crossed keys which represent the responsibility that Jesus gave to Peter, which is inherited by every pope. Keys are often a symbol of power and authority or alternatively knowledge.
There are a number of interpretations for keys in dreams. For example, losing a key can be related to unwanted circumstances in your life and a rusty key is an indication of unused talent. Hearing the sound of a bunch of keys suggests that you are doing the right thing and making the right choices in your life.
