We at Doorsan Ltd would like to pay a tribute to Ray Manzarek 74 keyboard player and member of The Doors band who passed away this week. We also wish to send our sympathies to his family and friends. Ray was a founding member of one of the biggest bands of the 1960’s. We feel a link with this iconic band, not just because we sell doors, but the founder of Doorsan is himself a musician and along with other members of the family have been playing music since the 1960’s, so we feel some connection with the music of this era.
The music from ‘The Doors’ entrenched the 1960’s American music scene, which also influenced modern music lovers in the UK. I remember going out to buy ‘Light my Fire’ on a 45 RPM record, released by Elektra records in the late 60’s, in fact I’m certain I still have it in my collection. I also remember being saddened by the untimely death of Jim Morrison in 1971.
The Doors used the keyboard as an important facet within their music ‘Light My Fire’ features Manzarek on keyboards at the beginning of the number. He was one of the first to use the ‘Moog’ synthesizer, a new development at the time, and used keyboards as the bass part in much of The Doors music.
Following the death of Jim Morrison, Ray Meta Title: Tribute continued to record music, tour and also became the producer for the Punk Rock Band X who came from Los Angeles.
As so often happens these days we have to say goodbye to another musical Icon of a wonderful age in music. Thanks again The Doors for inspirational music we experienced in our youth.
