So, here goes with some advice about internal doors. It seems logical to begin with a post about choosing the material of your doors. It is often taken for granted what the different options are so I have explained the different terms that we use below.
What to look for in a door
Customers often ask how to choose an internal door or what is important to look for in a door. Your first consideration will be choice of finish and we have explained the main options we offer below.
Choice of Finish
Your choice of finish will depend on personal preference and the quality look and feel you would like. At Doorsan we focus entirely on wooden doors and here are our main options.
Unfinished Oak Doors
Currently our most popular choice of door, these doors must be prepared for sealing in an oil or solvent based internal lacquer prior to hanging. Finishing stains are available in different options such as clear or coloured and we always recommend using a good quality finishing treatment. Prefinished Oak Doors
These doors are fully finished in a high specification gloss/satin lacquer so they are ready to hang. This allows quick and easy installation, however if any adjustments are required, such as shaving down to size, these areas should be treated with a recommended finish to prevent moisture ingress. If unsure please call us for further details.
Prefinished Walnut Doors
These doors are supplied fully finished and are ready to hang. This means installation is quick and easy, however if you need to alter the door the affected area must be treated.
Pine Doors
Our range of pine doors includes knotty pine doors, pitched pine doors and clear pine doors. Knotty pine is best if you are working to a tight budget, while the finish is not as smooth as other options. Clear pine is a more modern style middle of the range timber. Pitch pine would be the best choice for a traditional theme and this is the more expensive option which guarantees a higher grade of finish. These are all solid core timber doors which are the best option for any adjustments or trimming that may be required, however clear pine are veneered and have a side lipping, please call before trimming. Pine doors are generally cheaper than the oak equivalents and can be varnished or painted using a recommended solvent based finish.
Hardwood Doors
Hardwood timber is typically associated with external doors however the grain and colour of hardwood doors makes them an attractive alternative for internal doors. If you are seeking a mahogany or darker colour/finish then hardwood doors are a good option. These doors are supplied ready to be painted or varnished.
Prefinished White Doors
Prefinished white doors are supplied ready to hang.
Primed White Doors
Primed white doors are supplied ready to paint in a range of colour options. These are available with a hollow core or a more durable core which is filled.
Beech Doors
Featuring a light grain effect, beech doors may be chosen to lighten a dark area. These are always supplied prefinished so they are ready to hang on delivery.
